Alright folks, it's my turn..
This isn't really about the formation of a song, but it is related.
There is a day and a combination of numbers that will forever live in Local Spirits infamy: Tuesday July 11, 2006, aka 7/11.
This day was a day we had agreed to get together and work on recording some tracks for the CD. 20 minutes before we were to meet up, Craig called and said that the power was out at the studio because his tenants had a domestic dispute and didn't pay the power bill on time.. that we'd probably have to cancel recording for that night. Craig mentioned that he had power at his place across the alley, but we didn't have any way to get it there..
I called Nate, we spoke, and we decided to have an extension cord location campaign. I grabbed 3-4, Nate grabbed a few, and we used the ones that Craig had on site. We ran the cords up to the 2nd story loft (aka Barefoot Studio) and tied it off on the deck. I hurled the extension cord around 50 feet several times trying to reach past a double blocked off fence to no avail, but finally got it across (extension cords are not very aerodynamic.. I kept missing by like 1 foot or went into the neighbor's yard). We got it plugged in and verified we had power up in the studio, Dan booted up the machines, and we got started.
Everything was going ok, we got all of the levels balanced out and were ready to record, and suddenly Dan's top of the line hard drive, which had all of our previous efforts, stopped working (my memory might be wrong here, but this did occur). The computer itself was not working properly, we weren't sure why. As the initial post suggested.. it was mid-July, and it was hot! We had to put a special fan on the computer and leave it open for it to work right, meanwhile, we had to turn off the A/C and close up the studio to get clean sound recorded...
Things really started to heat up. Copious quantities of beverages were consumed, shirts were removed, and recording efforts continued. Finally, 2 hours after we got together, we started playing... several songs in, we noticed everyone was getting giddy.. we were all in a groove, locked in, and the tracks were falling perfectly into place. Through all of the adversity, we ended up laying down 2/3's of the album that one night..
Now every time we're setting up, or dealing with ridiculous Omars (mad 'Ville deejays) we remind eachother of 7/11: how we shine brightest under adversity.
Cheers -B

"maybe you're wonderin where I'll be... but, baby, that's up to you".
Yeah, okay, so I don't really know the lyrics just yet, but it's something like that.

Let's try this again....
"Have you thought about me lately, wonderin where I'll be, and if we'll be together, well, baby, that's up to you..... something, something, something.... wasting my time with you."
hahaha. I think that's closer, at least.
We should have a "guess nate's lyrics" post.... where, instead of Nate explaining, we all start with a song (one that's not on the CD) and try to get through all the lyrics. It could be kinda fun... I think I just make up my own lyrics to most of the songs!! haha.
